This site is an unofficial guide to the UEFA Euro 2008 Championships which are being co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland. Like the FIFA World Cup, the Euro Championships are held every 4 years and the tournament is considered second only to the FIFA World Cup.

The finals kick off in Basle on 7th June 2008 when Switzerland play the Czech Republic in the opening match of the tournament. This site will keep you updated with statistics about the qualifying groups as they progress.

Although England won't be there, you can follow the thoughts and experiences of an England at our blog, The White Pele. This was started prior to the 2006 World Cup finals and will be updated on a regular basis.

Brief History of the Tournament

The first European Football Championships was held in 1960. Only 4 teams took part in the finals which were held in France. Since then the European Football Championships tournament grew to the 16 team format we will see in Austria-Switzerland during Euro 2008. The tournament was originally called the European Nations Cup and changed it's name in 1968. Statistics are available for previous European Football Championships here
