Could a football player ever be a poker champion? Football Skills in Poker

Football players must have a tremendous amount of endurance to run up and down the football field for 90 minutes in each contest. Poker players lament how trying it is to sit at the poker table for 12 hours a day for several days in a row when trying to win a poker tournament – at least outside the online gambling world. A football player certainly has the discipline to handle this kind of situation.

Football players must also be observant, ready to strike at any weakness in the opponent’s defenses the moment it is perceived. A poker player is also always watching the table, looking for soft spots, planning when and against whom he will make his big move.

Football Disadvantages

Poker may not be fast paced enough for some football players, who are used to non-stop action. A poker player must often sit back and watch for hours at a time, letting things develop until the moment is right. Football players are not known for their ability to sit still.

Football players may also prefer instant gratification – speaking in gambling terms – a huge, instant casino bonus. Scoring a goal in football is massive, and its consequences are immediately apparent. In poker, a player may need to accumulate several small pots before he presents a real threat.
